The Concert Choir ~
The Long Beach
High School Concert Choir has a long and valued history of commitment to
excellence. As having been acknowledged as one of the finest high school choral programs
in the South, the Concert Choir and its additional ensembles, during the past 30 years,
has received countless superior ratings at district, state, and national levels. In 1980,
the Concert Choir performed a solo concert at the National Convention of the Music
Educators National Conference. The Choir has pursued cultural studies while
performing for audiences in Canada, Mexico, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Spain, Switzerland,
England, Scotland, and throughout the United States. In addition to performing for
Presidents Reagan and Bush, the Concert Choir was the first South Mississippi High School
choir to perform a solo performance at New York Citys famed Carnegie Hall as well as
singing in St. Patricks Cathedral. The Choir, for over 25 years, founded and hosted
the Gulf Coast Choral Festival - a festival that eventually became the largest choral
festival in the state.
Under the
direction of Joel Dunlap, the 2008 Concert Choir traveled to Florence, Venice and Rome,
Italy for a 10-day concert tour. The Choir performed at such world-renowned venues
as St. Mark's in Venice and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome - the largest church in the
world.
Most recently in
June 2011, the Concert Choir toured England and France performing in such venues as
Canterbury Cathedral, St. Paul's Church, Eglise de le Madeleine, and Notre Dame Cathedral. |
